I’ve met programmers refuse a promotion to a lead role solely because they enjoy the freedom of time as an individual contributor. Less noise. And I’ve met senior engineers who choose to stay even though they earn less simply because they enjoy the freedom of flexibility, respect for time, the laxness. Corporate culture plays a great factor in retention.

I turn on Disappearing Messages on a 24 hour basis because: we should not hold on too much to conversations. Before we were glued to our phones, we spent time talking in person, attentive enough to remember what they said. Safe keep only those noteworthy.

How can I be happy? Shouldn’t I be happy now?

Happiness isn’t a consequence or destination, it’s an emergent property of the process called living. Sadness or disappointment is a result of mistakes or misfortune that reminds us to be careful or keep moving, but happiness?

Happiness is found through “travel”, not “destination”. From the top of the mountain one cannot see the mountain, just the distant peaks of places you’re not. Climb as far as necessary to confirm that it is a mountain, then briefly descend to explore another.

Life doesn’t start when you get to where you need to “be”, it begins when you realize that the thing you’re looking for can only be touched when chased; held yet never had.

“Ours” is perhaps the closest answer if I wanted to continue to speak like a sorcerer-philosopher.

But yep, it’s my writing. I’m quite sleep deprived so I’m pretty happy to find the execution turned out superior to my intent even as I wrote it out. Intuitive processes quietly carry the weight of most cognitive efforts. We simply wear the medal after scores are tallied.
