I was much more gutsy in my 20s. I was able to pitch a business plan to the company I worked for to install a vending machine in the building because the time spent by most employees to walk to the nearest convenience shop was too long and some of those doing overtime wants a boost of soda/energy drink sometimes but the store is closed. I pitched this idea to senior management, I was in a low-grade job post, but my confidence was increíble. Such is so that I also pitched this very same initiative to the university where I took my masters!

How could trips be so easily forgotten? If it truly was epic, as you say it is, it then deserves to be remembered more than just revered. You see, the happiest of moments, the truly epic ones, latch on to you like a leech not letting go until its had its full. And it may hurt while it sucks the life off of ya, but you have to trust in this: the hole cut through when attempted to remove while it is still feeding will not only cause excruciating pain because its teeth digs through the skin like a circle, and not a J hook.

Sometimes I look at the darkness that unfolds the earth from my seat on an evening flight and imagine that the cluster of lights on ground are little cities floating in the ocean. It’s all fair game in pitch black, land and water. No border to separate except the possibility of bridges connecting every community. Little towns, boats, all the same.

How DANA happened is such a fascinating different point of view about floods. In Spain, they fight for their right to better services and readiness in case calamity strikes AGAIN. And mind you, that’s one flood, and it was last year. And they are still fighting for it today, they even successfully ousted people of Comunitat Valenciana who was in charge of the delayed alerts.
And then here we have the Philippines, even with all the buzz around flood gate scandal, and the affected have seen the numbers and the people involved, they do not go out to the streets to protest the people involved, no— that is not their initial idea — instead they think of ways to plant mangrove trees as flood control.

Someone used to laugh at me for noticing Spanish signs and influences found in buildings tapered by modern plastic. But not me, I found it interesting. But why did I feel proud learning about Spanish culture when they as a matter of fact, colonized our people? Why, at that young age, pray tell, was I enamored of this Spanish life by knowing so little? Was I programmed to like them? Was it ingrained in our parent’s upbringing like implemented in school until the Americans took over? So many questions.

Some cultural things like waiting for the 13th month pay to actually spending it all is now no longer a thing. Malaysia didn’t have that as a norm and neither does Spain. It’s surprising to feel that way.

Was by the balcony earlier, I had some good epiphanies but I don’t remember them now of course. Cause I wanted to be in the moment. But alas! I also saw a bird. Majestic. Grand. Just like those figurines for sale in bazaars in Malaybalay, the one where its beak allows its flight to be possible. Good decorative art I must say. But today I really felt like a proper birdwatcher. No intent to record the moment in camera, just watch it from start to finish. From the time it flew into its nest at Pared de enfrente and then waiting for it to fly back out and watch it hunt the upper grounds and fly it back for its wife. Nature is truly increíble.
